Fall has arrive, and with it comes a bit of urgency to achieve the target goals we have set for 2016.

You did set some target goals for your business, right? If not, no problem. It’s not too late to kick it into high gear so that you can close out 2016 with a big win.

Here are five strategies that you can implement immediately:

1. Create a 60 – 90 day plan of action.

Creating a 60 – 90 day plan of action, will empower you to get laser focused on the day-to-day activities that will help you accomplish your goals.

Do you want to hit a specific revenue goal by the end of the year? If so, what does that look like? What type of sales activities do you need to do every day, week, and month till the end of the year?

What marketing or promotional campaigns can you implement to help achieve those goals?

The point is to take out your calendar and set up your schedule so that you are clear on the daily, weekly, and monthly activities you need to do to get the results you want in 2016.

Here’s a skeleton blueprint for a 60 – 90 day plan of action to help you get started. If you want to go deeper and need some guidance, click here.

  • Set the goal, the end result, the outcome you want to achieve by the end of the year
  • Establish timelines. For example, every Monday I will have a sales meeting with my team. Every day from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, I will call 10 prospective clients.
  • Identify tasks, to-dos, and checklists
  • Delegate or assume the responsibility for those tasks, to-dos, and checklists
  • Establish milestones. For example, at the end of 30 days, I want to increase revenue by 20%.

2. Get organized.

I know it sounds obvious, but the truth is that many small business owners are constantly overwhelmed and buried in disorganization.We get busy and let things pile up around our work station and before you know it, it looks like a bomb went off.

Take a half or full day and set up your work-space for success. You’d be surprised by what you can achieve if you clear away the physical clutter. I recently had a coaching client text me a photo of her newly organized home office, and it looked cheery and tidy. We had previously worked on establishing  a calendar of activities for her projects. She was ecstatic about her new happy place. I am certain that her new space had a profound effect on her mental well-being too.

3. Get laser-focused.

That means saying no to invitations that come your way. I know. It sounds harsh. But the truth is that if you want to hit your target goals for 2016, you need to make some sacrifices by saying no to some things, so that you can focus on the activities that will help you move the needle forward in your business.

There will always be distractions pulling you away from your intentions and focus, especially in this presidential election year (which is high drama) and social climate. Stay strong. Stay focused.

Speaking of drama, eliminate any drama that is in close proximity to you. Drama requires a lot of bandwidth and it kills focus. Save your bandwidth for pursuing your goals. If you are constantly having conversations with clients, employees, vendors, or partners on misunderstandings or miscommunications, that’s time-away (which you will never get back) from the pursuit of your goals.

Some people love to drown themselves in drama. Don’t get sucked into their spider web. Stay focused on the end result.

4. Ask for support.

If you are like many small business owners, you don’t like asking for help because “you’ve” got it all under control. Well, guess what. No one has ever achieved success all by themselves. It literally takes a village. Whether it’s your employees, partners, vendors, or customers, — brainstorm how you can enroll people to help by engaging them in a partnership that’s a win-win.

The key word here is win-win. How can you collaborate or co-create with others to achieve success? How about incentive or referral programs? Who do you know that can help you hit those target goals, and how can you enroll them to help you? Who’s on your team?

In addition, it’s okay to ask for moral support from friends and family. Whether it’s from a spouse, or a friend – your people want to see you succeed.

Another great way to ask for support is to hire a business coach or seek out a mentor. These professionals can usually spot the areas where you are blocked because they have a unique perspective by looking from the outside in. It’s also much easier for the coach/mentor to identify your pain points because she is not emotionally attached to your situation. She can bring a different viewpoint that may have been overlooked.

I recently hired a business coach, and it has made all the difference in my productivity. 

5.  Take care of yourself.

This should go without saying. Listen to your body. Get plenty of sleep. Eat healthy foods. Exercise. Take a yoga class. Go for hikes in the forest or in the park. Stay away from toxic people.

We’ve heard it all before. Much easier said than done.

This is an endurance race, not a sprint. No sense in pursuing those goals if you can’t enjoy the benefits of your success.

Your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being is important. There’s tons of research and data that proves the mind-body connection. So, be kind to yourself.
