Launch Pad

My company, Hware is gearing up to launch an Action Planning software tool designed for entrepreneurs. So, naturally I spend a lot of time researching “software launch” strategies and tactics. A few days ago, I was on a webinar with Andrew Warner of Mixergy and Noah Kagan of OkDork. The webinar was designed to discuss, share, and learn about product launches.

These are my notes from the webinar. I hope you find them useful. Noah’s launch method had 3 phases:

1. Idea
2. Validate
3. Launch

Idea Phase

Entrepreneurs are full of ideas. The question is, can you make money with that idea? It’s important to explore the various revenue streams with each idea no matter how ridiculous the idea is. Don’t worry about how crazy the idea seems. The important thing is to write it down and then come back later and flesh it out or brainstorm ways to monetize.  It’s important to list, rank, and score each idea. Then review the top ideas with mentors and/or friends.

Validate Phase

Once you are clear on the idea and you’ve picked your revenue model, then it’s time to validate the idea with other people. Talk to prospective customers, clients, members, etc., about the idea. Ask them if they would be willing to pay for such a product/service. Use surveys, polls, questionnaires, etc.  Google has many great tools for this.

Send out an initial test offering.  Ask for feedback, likes, and dislikes.

It’s also important to ask yourself at this stage, “Is this something I am passionate about? Is this something I really want to do?” If not, don’t do it, because if you are not excited about it, then the drive to do it will eventually die.  In other words, don’t do it just because you think you are going to make a lot of money. Have some passion for your idea.

Launch Phase

Give exclusives to major blogs.
Partner with other companies who have a similar target audience.
Target grade “B” people. Grade “A” people are too difficult to get in touch with and you can waste a lot of time trying to reach them. Instead, work with people who may not be as influential but can still help you get your message out there.
Give webinars. Sell by out training your competition. Webinars are a great tool for that.

Webinar Wrap-up

Overall, it was a useful $99.00 three-hour webinar. Noah invited each listener to post a link of their website where he would then give a critique of the product site. The greatest value I got was when Noah invited me to e-mail him with questions. I did and he responded within 24 hours.

The main question I had for him was, “What’s the fastest and most effective way to launch my software product?”  His answer was, “…effective niche-ing. i don’t say it for fun. every successful product was NICHE. google, facebook, appsumo, mixergy, craigslist, amazon (i can keep going).”

I took Noah’s advice and 3-phase method and placed it into my action planning software to give it some organization and structure. This is a screenshot of what it looks like.

Goals and Action Plans

I could really use your input and feedback too. Your comments are critical to the final development phase of our software. You can help us by answering a few questions. If you have been part of our online community for any length of time, you know that I rarely ask for favors or try to sell you a bunch a stuff you don’t need.  However, this is one of those unusual times where I really need the support and help of our online community. In other words, help US help YOU by answering the following questions:

What are some current goals that you are struggling with?  What are you trying to accomplish this week, this month, this year that is challenging or frustrating? What objectives do you have that are difficult to achieve or keeping you up at night? The reason I am asking is because action plans are tied to goals. And, we want to develop some templates for you —to help you put your goals into an action plan.

Win A FLIP Video Camera

So, leave your comments below. When you leave a comment, you will have a chance to win a flip video camera.  We will announce the winner next month. You can post as many goals as you like and as often as you like. In fact, the more goals you post, the greater the chances of winning! I look forward to seeing your goals below!
