SIERRA ADOPTION SERVICES”

Hike around the  “TAHOE RIM TRAIL”

The hike was a great success we raised over $28,000. I hiked 189 miles and 34,000 vertical feet up and down.

What is it?  3rd Annual Fundraiser for Sierra Adoption Services

Why are we doing this?  To raise $20,000 for Sierra Adoption Services (SAS) and promote the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) . This fundraiser will help four children currently waiting in the California foster care system find permanent adoptive families.  Over 50% of the kids leaving foster care today at age 18 who don’t find permanent homes end up homeless, in prison, or dead within two years.

When is it?  Saturday July 24th thru Friday August 6th 2004

Where is it?  Tahoe Rim Trail.  The TRT surrounds the entire majestic Lake Tahoe.  The hike begins in Tahoe City at 8:00 a.m. This 168 mile hike covers 31,000 vertical up and down feet.  Join us to hike the entire Tahoe Rim Trail over 14 days or you can meet up with us at different access locations and hike the TRT with us for a day or two or a week.  You will see breathtaking views of one of the most inspiring places on earth.  We will be hosting an evening reception in Tahoe the day the hikers finish.  Location TBA.

Who are we?   Chuck and Brenda T. Horton will be organizing this event. The Hortons are an avid outdoors couple who live in the beautiful Sierra Foothills in Grass Valley, California.   They are members of the TRT association and Chuck is a member of the Board of Directors for Sierra Adoption Services.  They have both summit Half Dome in Yosemite National Park and Mt. Whitney (the highest mountain in the continental USA). Together, they have hiked across many of the peaks in the Tahoe region. In the past couple of years, they have raised funds for SAS and have helped place needy foster children with loving homes.

Sierra Adoption Service’s mission is to break the cycle of abuse by providing permanent adoptive families for California’s foster children.  SAS focuses on children with special needs.  SAS promotes a climate that supports successful adoptions through services and advocacy.

 SAS is a non-profit. Tax ID # 68-0002878.

How can you help?  By participating as a sponsor, hiker, or volunteer.  We are looking for media,  business and individual sponsors, as well as hikers and volunteers to pledge their support.
