Hike  “parts of the Pacific Crest Trail & John Muir Trail

What is it?  5th Annual Fundraiser for Sierra Adoption Services

Why are we doing this?  To raise $25,000 for Sierra Adoption Services (SAS) and promote the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) . This fundraiser will help five children currently waiting in the California foster care system find permanent adoptive families.  Over 50% of the kids leaving foster care today at age 18 who don’t find permanent homes end up homeless, in prison, or dead within two years.

When is it?  Friday September 8th thru Wednesday September 20th 2006

Where is it?  Starting in South Lake Tahoe at Big Meadow and ending at the Ahwahnee Lodge in Yosemite Valley.  We will be taking the Pacific Crest Trail to the John Muir Trail. The hike begins in Big Meadow at 10:00 a.m. This 151 mile hike covers 31,000 vertical up and down feet.  Join us to hike the beautiful Pacific Crest Trail over 13 days or you can meet up with us at different access locations and hike the PCT with us for a day or two or a week.  You will see breathtaking views of one of the most inspiring places on earth.

Who are we?   Chuck and Brenda T. Horton will be organizing this event. The Hortons are an avid outdoors couple who live in the beautiful Sierra Foothills in Grass Valley, California.   They are members of the PCT association and Chuck is a member of the Board of Directors for Sierra Adoption Services.  They have both summit Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, Mt. Whitney (the highest mountain in the continental USA) and Chuck hiked the entire Tahoe Rim Trail (165 miles). Together, they have hiked across many of the peaks in the Tahoe region. In the past several years, they have raised funds for SAS and have helped place needy foster children with loving homes.

Sierra Adoption Service’s Mission: We transform the lives of children in foster care by building and nurturing permanent families.

 SAS is a non-profit. Tax ID # 68-0002878.
